Developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20thcentury, Pilates teaches awareness of breathing, spinal alignment, and strengthens the deep trunk and spinal muscles.
Joseph Pilates believed that by concentrating on precise movement, awareness of breath and a flowing movement, the exerciser will be able to alter abnormal patterns of movement and achieve a carry over effect into daily function.
Pilates can help improve posture, muscle tone and flexibility, core strength and joint mobility, as well as relieve stress and tension. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of lower back pain, neck pain and other upper and lower limb injuries. It is a useful form of exercise to utilise particularly if pain is a major factor in your symptoms or if you have a long term condition.
Connected Physio, Physiotherapy led Pilates can help not only those that are recovering from injury and need some guidance and modified Pilates techniques but also those that are looking to gain the benefits of Pilates in a safe and effective environment.
